What I’ll Do as a Personal Finance Blogger in 2024

Ready to embark on an exciting blogging journey? If I were starting from scratch this year, here’s my game plan:

1: Find Your Niche

The first step is to identify your niche. At Blog Growth Engine, we use the Authority Flywheel, which includes four key aspects: you, your expertise, the market, and advantages.

  • You: What unique knowledge or passion do you bring to the table? Picture your homepage: what would your message be?
  • Your Expertise: You don’t need to be a seasoned pro. Even if you’re just starting, your journey can be compelling and relatable.
  • The Market: Dive back into keyword research. Identify topics with low competition but good search volume. Aim for keywords with low difficulty (under five) and look for sites with a domain rating under 40 in the top 10 results.
  • Advantages: What sets you apart? Whether it’s connections, existing resources, or specific knowledge, leverage these advantages.
2: Conduct Keyword Research

Focus on finding keywords that have good search volume but low competition. This is crucial for gaining traction early on. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or Surfer SEO to identify promising keywords. Remember, sometimes search volume metrics aren’t perfect, but they provide a useful starting point.

3: Build Your Content Strategy

You need to create content that can sustain your blog for years. Strike a balance: don’t go too narrow (e.g., “travel nursing in Europe”) or too broad (e.g., “gardening and software”). Instead, pick a niche that’s broad enough to expand over time but focused enough to build authority.

4: Develop a Content Assembly Line

Start by learning the basics of WordPress, from setting up your site to uploading your content. It will take time to become efficient, but the more you write, the faster and better you’ll get. Eventually, document your process and consider hiring writers to scale up your content production.

5: Monetization and SEO

Set up Google Analytics and Google Search Console right from the start. These tools are essential for tracking your traffic and getting indexed by Google. Once your blog starts generating traffic, join affiliate programs relevant to your niche.

6: Stay Consistent and Adapt

Consistency is key. Aim to write at least a couple of articles each week. Market trends can change, and so can your interests. Be prepared to pivot if necessary. For example, if your initial niche isn’t working out, adapt and explore related topics.

7: Engage and Grow Your Audience

Create content that resonates with your audience. This includes informational, transactional, and thought leadership articles. Engage with your readers through comments, emails, and social media.

8: Optimize and Scale

Once your blog is established, optimize your content for SEO. Use tools like Surfer SEO to refine your strategy. Continue to build links and consider guest posting on other blogs to increase your authority.
